LEADERSHIP & TEAMWORK
LEADERSHIP & TEAMWORK

What I’ve done: I’ve competed in team sports since I was five years old. Primarily being the sport of Baseball in which I have played on easily over 20 different teams and I was nominated as a team captain multiple times. The last being my senior year of high school. As well as being nominated by Chesapeake College as an academic leader in athletics to go advocate for funding in Annapolis, MD at junior college student advocacy day. Demonstrating my skill set to lead others in a competitive and non-competitive environment.

What it means to me: The fact that my teammates believed that I was someone that was fit to lead them to our common goal of winning a championship was something that I was immensely honored by. The fact that these men believed in me to lead us through all our rigorous practices, training, and the ups and downs emotionally that go into a baseball season I feel really showed me that I have leadership skills. This gave me a level of increased responsibility for the effort and character of our team being in a leadership position. I had to set the example for our guys to follow and while we did not win a championship it wasn’t for a lack of effort or character, and I think myself being selected as a team captain had a small part to do with that and I think my teammates would agree. Furthermore, I was equally honored to be able to be a leader academically as well. Being a leader in that sense and being nominated by the college to represent our athletics programs not only helped me lead teammates on the field but off the field as well. Which one could argue is a platform with even more responsibility as many of us would not become professional athletes.

Where it leads me: I believe all the years of team sports and being selected as team captain have given me immense leadership skills that have been transferrable to professional settings. Similar to team sports, a company is a team of people as well, and instead of the common goal being to win a championship the common goal is to increase profitability and make an impact. So I these leadership skills have served me very well in professional settings and my ability to work with people of various personality types and backgrounds.

TECHNOLOGY
TECHNOLOGY

What I’ve done: In regards to technology and the ever-changing technological world that we live in, I have a few credentials to show my aptitude for the technological climate of the world. One of which being the completion of Towson University’s CPE (Computer Proficiency Exam) with distinction. This exam tests students on their proficiency of Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint, and Microsoft Excel skills, ensuring that students accepted into Towson’s School of Business are proficient with this software and able to comprehend and effectively use technology in their professional lives. Additionally, during my studies at Towson as well as in my career as a marketer & entrepreneur, I have been required to complete multiple websites and digital marketing projects. However, my most notable accomplishment in technology in my opinion is learning how to build a high-performance desktop computer from scratch, which is a testament to my technical expertise and attention to detail.

What it means to me: This means to me that I have a deep understanding of technology and its applications in today’s business world. I believe that my skills and achievements in technology demonstrate my ability to adapt and thrive in today’s digital landscape. Furthermore, it represents my success in completing my education at Towson University and my success in my career in marketing, which I take great pride in. My knowledge has allowed me to help my family and friends with their digital needs, and I have been able to cut costs for them in the professional and personal realm due to my knowledge of technology, both software and hardware.

Where it leads me: While I am very proud of these accomplishments, I understand the importance of continually developing my skills to stay current with the latest technologies. I have made it a point to keep up with new technologies and business software in an effort to be able to tackle any problem I face with the advantage of technology on my side. Ultimately, this will lead to increased efficiency, cost savings, and revenue growth for any organization I work for. I am confident that my technical skills and experience make me an attractive candidate for any employer looking for a professional with a deep understanding of technology and its applications in today's business world.

ETHICS & VALUES
ETHICS & VALUES

What I’ve done: With respect to ethics and values I have always had the mindset that it is necessary to give back when you’re in a fortunate position, and simply the fact that I have been born in America makes me feel extremely fortunate, many statistics show that even the poorest of Americans would be the wealthiest of people in about eighty percent of places around the world. This is a statistic that I carry with me as a constant reminder of how fortunate I am to be able to be in the position I am in my career. This drives me to action. So, I have tried to make it a point to participate in volunteer opportunities when possible although I would like to be able to do more. I have served for environmental cleanup for Blue Water Baltimore, Habitat for Humanity Restore in Easton Maryland, Clean Bread & Cheese Creek cleanup in Dundalk Maryland, seventy-five hours of local community service in Easton Maryland which focused on local sports, and serving at His Hope Haven’s homeless shelter in Denton Maryland to name a few. I also contribute routinely to non-profit organizations.

What it means to me: I am very thankful to have had the opportunity to serve at each and every one of these organizations, and am thankful for the experiences and people that I came across while completing these events. With that being said to me this represents a duty as I somewhat alluded to already. I feel obligated due to the place in which I was born (America) to not just simply consume with the things/situations I have been given. I feel rather than simply consuming, it is my duty to also give back, so this is very near and dear to my heart, and to my core that I do these things and make time for these things regardless of what’s going on in my life. It also gives me the confidence going forward that I can and will make ethical decisions personally and professionally.

Where it leads me: I feel that these experiences have helped me grow tremendously as a person. For me, it has created a healthy level of humility which I always aim to have and shows me that there is so much more going on in this world than simply my life. It has helped me professionally as well, while this wasn’t the goal or focus of serving these organizations, it has lead me to meet some very high character people that I have networked with and have taken great wisdom from. Wisdom that I feel has helped me through many things throughout the years as many of the people whom I served with were older than myself and had been through many of the things I was going through or am about to go through. As well as the amount of people whom are stakeholders in our environment and communities. So I am very thankful for that, and will continue to use their advice and the lessons I learned throughout these experiences as I go forward in my career.

ATTITUDE & PRACTICAL EXCELLENCE
ATTITUDE & PRACTICAL EXCELLENCE

What I’ve done: Even as a young man in grade school I made a proactive choice to register to become a peer mediator for the school. A peer mediator is someone whom is trained in the ways of conflict resolution between fellow students. You are training to see and respect everyone’s perspective, feelings, and views and work together with two students whom are having a conflict to resolve it in a healthy manner. This required intense focus, and an open mind to be able to see everyone’s perspectives.  You also must remain an exemplary student yourself to maintain this position as you must lead by example. During my time as a peer mediator for the school I can estimate that I at least mediated twenty conflicts amongst my fellow students. With many of them being resolved due to the techniques that were taught to us as mediators to work to find a middle ground and respect for the individuals involved in the conflict.

What it means to me: This meant to me that I was someone that other students could look up to with the platform of being a peer mediator. While I wasn’t and am still not perfect, I think we all strive to be someone that can be looked at as a good example or a role model of some sorts and that’s what this meant to me. I took great pride in that fact that I was chosen to help my fellow students resolve their issues and get along because I had seen firsthand how anger and resentment can affect people in interpersonal relationships. It hinders their experience, ability to focus, quality of life, and so much more. So I considered it a great honor that I could serve to help my fellow classmates in something that had such importance on the quality of their school experience and potentially even more because I feel like no one should be worried or stressed about going to school, it should be a safe and warm place to grow and learn.

Where it leads me: The skills that I learned and were trained in during my time as a peer mediator such as conflict resolution, attentiveness, punctuality, tolerance, sensitivity, and people skills are all very transferrable into any personal or professional setting. So these skills will remain with me for the remainder of my life and can help me tremendously by knowing how to effectively treat people, and resolve problems. There are many different kinds of people with many different kinds of beliefs and values in today’s workforce, and this experience has given me skills, tact, and EQ along with many other experiences both personally and professionally to treat these people with the appropriate tolerance and respect that they deserve.
