Something I have come across lately and have felt the benefits from personally is diaphragmatic breathing. From reducing stress and anxiety to improving respiratory function and reducing chronic pain, the benefits of this technique really are incredible and can have helped me be more productive. So, I wanted to share this in the event others hadn't heard of this yet either.


Here are some studies conducted on the benefits found in Diaphragmatic breathing:


1. A 12-week diaphragmatic breathing program led to significant reductions in cortisol levels and improvements in mood and quality of life in individuals with anxiety disorders (International Journal of Behavioral Medicine)


2. A 12-week program led to improvements in lung function in people with COPD (Journal of Physiotherapy)


3. A 12-week program led to significant reductions in pain intensity and disability in people with chronic low back pain (Journal of Pain)


4. Diaphragmatic breathing can increase heart rate variability (HRV) (International Journal of Behavioral Medicine)


5. Daily practice of diaphragmatic breathing improved sleep quality and reduced insomnia in people with sleep disorders (Journal of Behavioral Medicine)



Breathing is something most (myself included) have overlooked for so-long, but the benefits of proper breathing are very compelling.
